Somebody finally brought out a GPS/mapping program for the Apple. From the reviews not a really strong contender and no voice operation but maybe they will develop it. http://www.66.com/route66/index.php I can't use it anyway because my Garmin doesn't have USB and the ibook doesn't have a serial port.
I got an Apple CD from Melissa yesterday and as Mike is Veeeeerrrrryyyy slow uploading pictures, I had to make copies so the rest of the family could see Elizabeth in pictures. Well- I tried the iphoto burner and after it ground along for 45 minutes and did abolutely nothing to the CD, I went to the PC. I had had trouble copying CD's with Roxio Easy CD creator and a trip to the manual led me to believe that with only one Cd drive, I had to make a copy onto the hard drive and then burn the CD. Well the cd worked- but the apple couldn't recognize it. To make it worse, Apple puts a whole bunch of unnecessary files on a picture CD making it almost impossible for a PC to find the real pics.
Oh Well! Back to the drawing board, a little experimenting and I found the proper method under "advanced!" An hour later I had an exact copy which the apple could read although the pc problems remain.
Well, after my success, I went back to the ibook and brought up Toast which is the Apple version of Easy CD Creator except, that it does copies with one drive right from the main menu! In addition, the 16x drive in the apple made the copy in less than five minutes.
Computer education- aint it grand?
A TV ad got me thinking as both my wooden ladders are getting pretty shaky. I went into their website. I got the name of a local distributor and went out to check the ladder out. Well, I now have the ultimate ladder. Spread feet and usable as a 22 foot extension ladder or a ten foot step ladder. Fiberglass so I won't get electrocuted when working on electrical stuff. It is a little heavy though. I got the demo which is a heavier model than the one on TV.
Well I finally attacked another of Michele's pet peeves. Mine too except it didn't bother me as much. We have never been able to get the local npr station well enough to enjoy. Friday, I finally put up an antenna I bought just after we moved into the house and ran the cable through the attic and to the music system.
Now, I get three npr stations including both Jacksonville and Orlando! Luckily, she didn't push me off the roof for procrastinating.
Here is how you get that computer or video wire that you can't reach in the attic as long as you have free view of the area from where you can kneel. Put an electrical snake or length of solid electrical wire up from below or through the side and put in enough to more than reach where you will be. Now take a 20ft piece of pvc tubing into the attic and slide either another snake or wire through the pvc. make a hook on the end. Extend the pvc to the place where the other snake is bunched up and snag it with the hook. pull the pvc and snake back together and proceed with the installation.
Or rather: Don't touch that keyboard. I downloaded Macstumbler last night and noticed that I could see my neighbor's wifi as well as my own. Both were wide open. So I decided to secure mine. Well I got it secured and then couldn't get the Apple configured so it would be accepted. I undid the changes on the network and then tried the Apple aqain. It said it couldnt see the proper wireless so I thought I had it I changed the netgear back to the same password. Ouch, it still didn't work. I put everything back to normal and went to bed.
When I got home today, I couldn't access anything on the net with the Apple. I checked the main hardwired machine and it was working fine.
I got out the Gateway which had not been changed and used it to troubleshoot the netgear. Then I went to work on the Apple. Then the gateway wouldn't work.
Finally, all three were back to normal. Don't touch that setting!
Thanks to Elton, Safari is back.
Safari is repaired and working again. It was due to a FONT! for some reason Safari doesn't run properly if Times RO font is present on the computer. Now tell me how the guy that solved it figured that one out ?????
Monday morning I started my first day as a volunteer at MRMC. Boy, has that place grown ! I got a good workout walking all over the place and then helping with about ten discharges and five incoming express care patients. I didn't realize how little time I spend standing. I originally thought the scheduling for four hours was too short; but I sure took a long nap in the afternoon. I used to volunteer at Habitat but I find that I really don't enjoy working in the heat and cold. Getting lazy in my old age, I guess.
