The only place in South Carolina that seems to have a fully working connection that I can send mail over is a little Internet Cafe outside the hospital. Now I'm back at my mother's condo and nothing seems to convince any of my outbound mail routers that an Earthlink DSL connection is ok. Grrrr...
Update: As the comments pointed out, port 25 is blocked by Earthlink. I actually have an Earthlink account that I was supposed to cancel a while back but forgot about. I used that account for my outbound traffic and now it looks good. People seem to be getting the mail I'm sending out. Woo hoo!
Posted by jherr at March 2, 2005 05:48 PMI believe that Earthlink blocks outbound port 25 (as a security measure). I signed up with Earthlink about a year ago while I was visiting family on the east coast. I discovered that Earthlink would not let me contact my own mailserver directly. Earthlink wanted me to use their mailservers. I cancelled the service less than 24 hours after signing up for it. A friend of mine on the east coast suggested I take a look at CopperNet. They seemed reasonably priced at the time so I went with them. Check'em out .....
At&t does something similar. When I'm at Robin's, I can access the internet via their DSL account but can't send messages. I have Earthlink and the work around is to use their webmail site where I can access my E_mail account. funny thing, I can get the incoming fine through Outlook Express.
