Revenge of the Sith

Just finished reading "Revenge of the Sith". Looks like Episode III is going to be the bloodbath we were all expecting. The whole thing dovetails together quite nicely. I'm sure there are big wholes and what-not, but I'm not so anal about the whole Star Wars thing that I care.

What I think is interesting is how Lucas has successfully gotten both red and blue states to watch what is a clear parable and warning about what's happening in our country. How many times does this theme of people wanting their government to take charge and seize control after a national tragedy have to play out before the majority of the population gets wise? Hopefully this current round will blow itself out before it does any serious damage. If they are willing to drain their power base on political black holes like the Schiavo case we still may get out of this yet. Plus the Republicans waking up and seeing Delay as his true monstrous self is an encouraging sign.

Lucas has said this is the only one of the installments that will not have a pg rating--too much battle, too many mature themes--and apparently, Anakin gets the crap kicked out of him and that's the reason for the whole mask and breathing machine deal. What I've read. This is a story about good and evil, not about red and blue. If that were true, then this would have more to do with what was happening when he wrote the entire story decades ago--so that would have been what? Carter days? That you find parallels with the current administration is fine--that's good and evil to you. I'm sure there are others who will draw parallels with religion. IT's a classic good vs evil and that's what makes it so universal. Even myself, who generally doesn't like sci-fi, enjoy the star wars movies because of it's universality.

This isn't a red and blue thing. It's a takeover by an evil tiny minority based on a misperceived threat. The same thing happened with Hitler's rise to power after the burning of the Reichstag.

As to the length of the theme. Your right, he wrote the first movies in the 70s. But he wrote the second set of three movies in the nineties when he could see the rise of the radical right. There are many ways to get to Luke, Leia, Darth as the father, the fall of the Jedi, the rise of the Empire, and the Clone Wars.
