War on Bird Flu

I just had to laugh this morning when I saw in the paper that Bush had declared "war on Bird flu". On, for pity's sake, let's just not do the "war thing" again.

Let me put it this way. Here are recent failed wars: War on Terror, War on Iraq, War on Afghanistan, War on Drugs, War on Poverty, War on Somalia, War in Iraq I, War in Vietnam, War in Korea, etc. etc.

And here are the wars that we actually really won: War in Kosovo, World War II.

And I'm sure there are many, many, many, wars that have failed that I'm leaving out. So who does this "war thing" appeal to other than right wing fascist nutcases anyway?

What does this "War on Bird Flu" mean anyway? Spending $100M less on pandemic preparedness than we would have if Bush had simply accepted the proposed budget as is. Nice. I feel way safer now. Oh, thank you fear and terror administration.
