Dixie chicks silliness

The right has their panties all in a twist about #1 selling artists "The Dixie Chicks". My counterpart on the right throws in with her rightie pals. What I found funnier is that she gave a list of people who are on her shit list with some surprises.

Let's see what these crazy lefities say about our beloved leader's Iraq war:

"It's all to do with these weapons (of mass destruction) that we can't seem to find, and why did we go over there?" -Mel Gibson

That's just fucking crazy.

"I'm very, very concerned about the Bush presidency. I'm worried about the kinds of cuts in domestic programs that mean something to a lot of people, including members of my family, who depend on certain things from the government." -Sarah Jessica Parker

Oh, man. That's off the hook. She is concerned with his Presidency. Wow, that's tantamount to treason.

Charleton Heston? The only thing I could find was some white supremacist ramblings about how whites had to be protected from the mongrel races. Not sure why he made the list.

I can't figure out how to get on the list. Is it anything at all that says anything negative against the commander and chief while we are at war? If that's the case then what about quotes like this:

"No goal, no objective, not until we have those things and a compelling case is made, then I say, back out of it, because innocent people are going to die for nothing. That's why I'm against it."

And:

"Explain to the mothers and fathers of American servicemen that may come home in body bags why their son or daughter have to give up their life?"

Clearly comments like that should make the list. This crazy lefty obviously doesn't support our troops. This kind of talk is treason during a time of war! Oh, but wait, the man was Sean Hannity and this was during the Kosovo campaign. And he is a great American!

Let's see what the other great Americans in Jacqueline's party said about the Kosovo campaign:

"Victory means exit strategy, and it's important for the President to explain to us what the exit strategy is." - George W. Bush

"You think Vietnam was bad? Vietnam is nothing next to Kosovo." -Tony Snow, our new Press Secretary

"American foreign policy is now one huge big mystery.  Simply put, the administration is trying to lead the world with a feel-good foreign policy." -Tom DeLay

"If we are going to commit American troops, we must be certain they have a clear mission, an achievable goal and an exit strategy." -Karen Hughes

"This is President Clinton's war, and when he falls flat on his face, that's his problem." -Richard Lugar

"For us to call this a victory and to commend the President of the United States as the Commander in Chief showing great leadership in Operation Allied Force is a farce" -Tom DeLay

Why do these people hate our troops so much?

What was it the Dixie Chick's said again? "Just so you know, we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas." Yeah, clearly, the Dixie Chicks hate America.

you misunderstood her list - her list is celebrities who are forever linked in her mind with their political agenda

She didn't say it was just one party...

its like for me Tom Cruise will always be that crazy scientologist.

Thanks Lori. That's exactly what I was saying.

Charlton Heston is "The President of the NRA" in my mind. And Mel Gibson is "A Christian". I guess I could have explained all of those as I listed them - obviously everyone doesn't have the same associations that I have!

The main point of my post was that Artists who align themselves with an agenda are sometimes more associated with the agenda than the art.

And the Dixie Chicks are such great musicians, that I hate to see thier art get lost in something as . . . dirty . . . as politics. I know it's too late. It's a shame.

And I know one of the reasons for art is to challenge the status quo - my theatre professors pointed that out, ummm, every time we read a play. Sometimes I think that's one of the reasons Hollywood feels so self-important. They have a huge megaphone. But if the message is coming out of the mouth of Tom Cruise - wouldn't the message have been better served to have been delivered somewhere else? And will you ever see a Cruise film without the stigma attached? The Dixie Chicks did alienate half their audience. That's a sad fact.

Who is Margaret Cho?

I like how you completely ignored my proof that the right is two-faced. They support war when it's started by a Republican, and they are against war when it's started by a Democrat.

As to the Dixie Chicks, they may have lost their audience in the flyover states, but they gained a substantial audience everywhere else. So it probably all evens out, or even gives them a better cashflow since there is more money in the blue states than in the red states.

And to the delivery by someone else of these messages. There were millions marching in the streets against the Iraq war both before and during. But these people were completely ignored.

Well, actually, it really doesn't matter. Republicans generate their own reality and when anyone disagrees with them they just ignore it if it's a regular person, or lambast it if it's someone who has the media spotlight.

Sorry Jack. Didn't mean to slight your Right-Bashing there. Yeah, partisan politics is disgusting.

If the Dixie Chicks happen to explode on the pop/rock/ac charts . . . that's great. As I noted in my post, one of our clients has 4 songs on the album, so, the better they do, the better we do financially. Go Chicks!! Because it is all about the money at the end of the day to me at this point.

That's something we can both agree on.
