Yeah, I do feel like a sucker

Yeah, I do feel like a sucker for buying not one but two iPhones right after they were released. I'm used to the fact that tech products are boat anchors in two years. And I'm used to paying a premium to buy Apple products because they are better designed. But a $200 drop 66 days after the release? That's just ri-freaking-diculous.

On a pundit level I think Apple made a serious blunder here. The price was too high and they had to make the adjustment. But the way it was done, and the paltry little rebate they are giving, stinks to high heaven. Jobs is going to have a tough time rolling out his next new product. And the iPhone, which is a little marvel, has been stained by this.

On a personal level, I feel like an ass for moving too fast. It's like I have a $600 neon sign on my belt blinking "sucker".

Jack,

Prices drop, so what? An an early adopter I paid early adopter prices. I received an benefit from being an early iPhone user. I had a number of wonderful discussions with people, sometimes total strangers about technology.

I knew that I was going to pay a premium for an early iPhone. I know that I will buy a 2nd generation iPhone (3G? GPS? Improved GUI?) when they come out. I could have waited until the next version of the iPhone, but I wanted to support the iPhone market, I wanted to provide feedback to Apple on the product, and I wanted to promote the market.

I received well in excess of $200 worth of value from being an early adopter. Had I known that the price would drop in 2 months, I still would have paid extra to be an early adopter.

Jack, the "sucker" label exists only in your own mind. You not a sucker in my mind!
