Given our experience with Nixon it was commonly held wisdom that a president's approval rating would never go under 20%. There is just a solid group of staunch supporters who no matter what will always approve of the person they put in office no matter how corrupt or awful. Nixon got close with 24% right around the time he resigned. Bush, being a maverick, has now plumbed new depths and sent his approval rating to a jaw dropping 19% with 77% disapproval. Truly remarkable. A watershed moment in American politics!
