Kirk Cameron must have had a show recently on how Christianity is the only religion that was 'created by God' and is therefor especially blessed because I've been hearing the argument everywhere for the last couple of weeks. Take this example:
For if Christianity was a religion, then judaism, islam, hinduism, buddhism, confucionism, daowism, heathenism, agnositcism, atheism*, catholicism, paganism, eastern mysticism and protestantism, etc, etc, etc, can NOT be a religion. In otherwords, ALL of these EXCEPT Christianity were created BY man. ONLY Christianity was created by Jesus Christ, who is God. Therefore, since Jesus created Christianity (and thus why the first 6 letters of it spells Christ), it alone is set apart (holy) from ALL other beliefs that have EVER existed.
I see. So if the criteria is the naming convention of the religion, then why don't Buddhism, which is named after the Buddha, and, Confucianism, which is named after Confucious, count? And how do Protestantism and Catholicism fit into that list? My Mom was Protestant, I can vouch for the fact that it's Christianity.
The original post was about raising your kids as atheists. I'm not sure what the author of the op-ed piece had against her own beliefs. If she is an atheist and doesn't believe in religion, then why would she want her kids exposed to it?
