Well now i'm offended

"IMAX theaters in several Southern cities have decided not to show a film on volcanoes out of concern that its references to evolution might offend those with fundamental religious beliefs."

This story from CNN offends me. To not show this movie because of evolution is ridiculous. the offending goes both ways - This non-religious, evolution knowing, thinking for myself, person is equally offended that you won't show something and let me make up my own damn mind!

Yeah. This is good stuff. It would be interesting to propose the removal of all technology in the time since Darwin's theories were introduced in these regions. This disbelief in certain theories and principles seems to be correlated directly to people's comfort. They will happily try to debunk this piece of science, but would be unable and completely unwilling to live without our use of the laws of physics which we use to drive television and communications systems.

Although I agree with the sentiment that this approach is closed minded. The reality is that the Theater owners want to make money. They have the perception that in their market sector of the South the film won't make money. I can't blame them for choosing not to show it.

Blame the local regions for cultivating a culture of dim wits, whether it be their education systems, local governments, religious groups, whatever.

Theaters have a hard enough time staying in business in the more progressive sectors of the country. They have a right to choose what they think will keep them in business.
