MEGAN'S NO GOOD VERY BAD NIGHT OR A COMEDY OF ERRORS

So ... Jack worked late last night - till about 12:30. When he came to bed he left Ripley asleep in the office and shut the door - not tightly but not open either. Ripely woke up and freaked out wining and pawing the door, bumping in to furniture and well waking up Megan next door. Megan cried so loudly and I jumped out of bed from a dead sleep and ran to her. I heard Ripley in the office and freed her and then went in and comforted Megan. I left her and she started crying... and crying a... and crying - for over an hour off and on with alittle talking. I finally went back in and she was standing in her crib ready to start the day!. I thought I'd rock her to sleep and Jack came in to help me for a second and I realized when she tried to get to him that she was up for a while. So we went up to the front of the house and Dad got a few hours of sleep. Megan enjoyed alittle crawling and then settled in my arms to watch Everwood with me. 45 mins into the hour show and Megan was finally out - I finished the show to make sure she was really out and then I walked her to bed...

but I forgot I had set up the chid gate at the opening of the living room. I walked right into it banging my foot in the process. After standing there making sure Megan was still asleep. I couldn't call Jack loud enough with the airfilter in our bedroom, so I reached down and pulled up the bar and then turned it to the side. As I took my first tentative step It started to slide. I stood there and waited and it came to rest on my foot. If I took another step it would slide the rest of the way down and crash. So far Megan was still asleep. So I again held her with just one arm, reached down and grabbed the gate and in the process of trying to get it settled leaning against the wall, I woke Up Megan.

I walked her back to her room and rocked her for afew seconds and she drifted back off to sleep. I stood up and started walking to the crib when I realized I hadn't lowered the side of the crib when I got her earlier (she was standing up remember). Now I can't lay a sleeping child over the side of the crib and gently on the matrices because Basically I can get her over it but I'd have to drop her the last few inches because my arms aren't long enough. So again I try to hold a sleeping child in one arm and lower the bar with the other. The bar actually requires 2 hands to lower. So again I woke her up. I'm not sure how but I did manage to lower the bar and get her in bed, but as I left the room she started crying again. Went ahead and left. and after a few minute she did manage to put her self back to sleep. but she was not very happy about it.

She slept til almost nine this morning. I wish I could have slept longer too!

Pet peeves

Where else but a blog can I rant about a pet peeve. Today's peeve is hand washing. I can't tell you how many woman I've seen just slightly wet their hands when the finish in a public rest room, or just skip the sinks all together. As if water does anything but wet their hands. Yesterday at the movies this woman made a big show of walking over and barely rinsing her hands then grabbing the handle of the door.- grrr. USE SOAP ALREADY its there for you to use. On NPR I heard a story about how few men wash there hands comparied to woman - which is down right scary. OK OK - rant over

UNBELIEVABLE

Yesterday during Megan's nap, got an annoying call from some company Jack had visited on the web. At first I hung up on the woman as a phone solicitation, but she called back so I listened to her for a few seconds and realized that yes this was probably something Jack looked into. So I took down her number so he could call her back, all the while she was offensive and condescending. She repeatedly told me her service might cost 100 a month and did I know that, not once but at least 10 times over the course of the conversation. I finally got her off the phone, called Jack and thought that that would be the end of my involvement. Well the same moron called at 6:30 this morning. When we didn't pick up the first time through and she got the machine she hung up and called again. I thinking only family call this early and it must be an emergency answered it and she said to me Hi What are you doing right now - Sleeping I told her - her reply " what on earth are you sleeping for" that's when I recognized her voice and I yelled back is this that company yes she said I replied DON"T EVER CALL HERE AGAIN. You know what she said just before I hung up on her - why did we contact you before?

It was the milk!

While in Disney, every morning I enjoyed coffee and later on I paid for it with a mad rush to the bathroom. I kept thinking Disney employees were giving me caffine dispite my request for decaf, but this morning as I was enjoying my coffee I realized at home I use soy milk. Silly rabbit.

It is so good to be home. Megan is now a fan of Bear and the big blue house and is enjoying her first Tivo'd episode. Disney is alot of fun, but there is no place like home.

stuff

Megan and I head down to Disneyland to meet up with Mike, Missy and Justin. Megan has a slight cold so we're hoping for health by then. She has grown so much I bought the next size up of Diapers today. I'll be apple free for this week so I probably won't be blogging again until next week.

I did see a movie on the weekend - Matchstick Men- pretty good - Nicolas Cage is an amazing actor. Jack and I also watched Carnivale a new show by HBO that I must say is just plain weird. It is well made and has great acting - so it might be worth something. We shall see.

another 1st Birthday

Megan and I had a great time at Bryce Harrison's 1st birthday party/safari. This was the 5th birthday party from our playgroup. We've got another one later in the month then Megan and then one more before we are done until we start up again 6 months later

Jack and I managed to clean out the garage somewhat. We got a storage unit and also got rid of some stuff. We put a sign on the front for free stuff and got rid of 2 monitors, a christmas present we got that we never used that was 6 years old (kitchen appliance) and a bike seat.

One size fits all or shopping at IKEA

Today after going to Apple, Megan and I ventured into the new East Palo Alto Ikea store. Much bigger than the ones in Australia and not as crowded as the one North of Oakland. I got a kick out of the snack bar. Your choices are Hotdog, Cinnamon bun, vanilla frozen yogurt, and a 16 oz drink. thats it no hamburgers, no chocolate, no 32 oz's here :) One size fits all! or just order 2 if you want 32 oz. It was a dollar for each item, so the bill was easy.

I managed to find the one type of shoe rack for the closet, a strap for a high chair that I'm going to use for shopping carts for Megan, and a new fitted sheet for our bed that was surprisingly soft for the 29.99. If anyone from the bay area goes there, drive past the entrance parking spots that i'm sure are full - go to the exit, that part of the lot was empty. - probably won't work on the weekend, though.

no EMAIL for me

I'm taking an email break for the next 7-10 days. Apple kept my mac and sent it out to get it worked on. So I won't be blogging that often and I won't be checking email, unless I go crazy and take Jack up on his offer to rig something up for me. I'm thinking of it as a test, to live without email for a week.

eck!

my moniter is acting up - I can't see anything on it unless I have it at less than a 90 degree angle. it seems to like 80 degrees best which means i have to hold the whole laptop kind of on its back so I can see it all. Megan and I will be taking a trip to the apple store today and I guess a walk around Palo Alto.

So I'm sitting at a red light and this guy in the corvette ahead of me throws a cig butt in the street. I got mad, what can I do with out risking getting shot at, so I took out the digital camera and took a picture of his car. All the way home I"m thinking about it and wonder if other people are as annoyed with litterbugs as I am so I'm wondering if people out there would post pictures to a website that is all about exposeing litterbugs? what do you think ??? am I just being crazy?

Saw the Order

Overall it was a good flick - very entertaining. My biggest complaint was that it was too choppy - I felt like lots of the movie was cut out and the editor hacked at it with no rhyme or reason. The acting was good, the effects were cool (I particularly liked the scenes in St Peters cathedral since I know the catholic church wouldn't have allowed them. I'd give it a 6 or 7 out of 10 and I'm up for the sequal, which probably won't be made since the theater was empty. I tend to like thrillers, and thriller that throw in religious history and mystisim get my attention.

She figured it out and is crawling everywhere. This morning before Jack headed back to work she crawled out of the living room and we had to chase her down. After he left she worked on reorganizing his collection of dvd's.

Santa Cruz

Megan and I had a lovely day in Santa Cruz. We drove down during her first nap on Hwy 17, which was suprisingly clear. We arrived and started out shopping, had lunch at Saturn Cafe (a vegetarian dinner) then walked down the main drag stopping and shopping along the way. We ended up back at the car by 2:30 where Megan nursed before another nap on the way home. It really worked out great.

I turned off my laptop, took out the battery and used a screw driver to fiddle with the connetion, when I put the charger in it worked fine. its alittle loose in there so I'm sure it will wiggle out of alignment again. Megan and I are off for an afternoon shopping.

Megan seems to be more interested in standing and walking (she cruises holding onto furniture) than crawling but she is able to get to furniture with tentative crawls. :)

bad cream cheese?

I've got a touch of a stomach bug, and as I think back to all the food I've eaten in the last few days, I'm starting to blame the cream cheese from our favorite bagel store. When Jack got home yesterday morning from the bagel shoppe I spread some cream cheese on my bagel took one bite and said it tasted strange. I did throw it out, but I'm guessing one bite was enough.
