XMas Shopping

Jack and I really sat down and got alot of Christmas shopping done. I only have 2 nieces left and Jack and Megan of course. Jack is really hard to buy for as he tends to buy what he wants when he wants it. I've got a couple of ideas but could use alittle help if anyone out there has an idea they aren't going to use.

Love Actually

This is a great review about a great movie - Ebert really captures it well (though I like the Colin Firth story line :)

What was I thinking?

Every year the woman in my family do an ornament exchange for Christmas. I usually buy an ornament, but a couple of years ago I took a beading class and made a couple of nice ornaments so I gave those to the woman I spent the holiday with and the rest got store bought ones. Well something possessed me and this year I decided to bead the whole lot and the one I need for an ornament exchange with some friends, so picture me in my free time (like I have so much of that with a toddler underfoot) beading on wire with itchy hands to boot. Actually I'm enjoying sinking my teeth into something - so to speak and have managed to make 3 of the 7 I need.

2 more movies

I saw Love Actually and Master and Commander this weekend. I recommend the first to everyone who needs a laugh and the later to anyone who needs a testosterone fix. Of the two I enjoyed Love Actually by far more. But it was more directed to me. I was the only female alone in Master and Commander but one of many females alone in Love Actually.

And Love Actually had Colin Firth - You can't go wrong with Mr Firth.

Blow Fly

Before Maui I bought the latest Patricia Cornwell novel about Dr Scarpetta a forensic pathologies. I've loved the previous books though like all serials the stories have gotten unrealistic and the characters a bit ridiculous. Anyway this story so far has dealt with a bunch of other character with on indirect chapter about Dr Scarpetta and one actually from her point of view - I think i"m on Chapter 28. What it has been good for is putting me to sleep. It's really been making me snooze.

variety

Megan loves to eat ... Pizza, grilled cheese, Earth's Best baby food - potato and green bean dinner, yogurt, grapes, and soy beans wide noodles with tomato sauce and rice noodles. and apples when she's sharing with Jack - she won't share with me. Oh yeah and goldfish and cheerios and bread.

she'll sometimes eat rice, white or yellow or mexican; boca burgers, apple sauce, pb&J, french fries, refried beans, lentils, tofu dogs, peas, garlicky potatoes

that's all. I can't get her to eat anything else except the above list. and lately she won't even eat the maybes.

more gymboree

I'm totally gymboree'd out. For those of you who don't know gymboree its a play gym where kids go and climb on padded things and practice skills. Megan loves it - which is why this afternoon we are going to go and sign up for 6 more months . At least we get a free rocking chair for Megan.

While I'm tired of the place and the activity I will say that I like having a little structure to our schedule. Megan has been napping through playgroup so its nice to have a place we still go once a week to be with other kids.

itchy hands...

While in Maui I broke out with small little red itchy bumps all over my hands. I know I'm allergic to Mango sap so I'm thinking it must have been the soap in the hotel, but now that we are home the bumps are gone but my hands are pealing and itchy still. I've woken up 2 nights in a row with incredibly itchy hands. Hydrocortisone helps as does aloe but this is an annoyance.

Maui and Home

We had a great time, but I'm as always glad to get home. Now Jack is off to Austin where he is giving a speech at a conference.

While in Maui we enjoyed the sun. Megan Loved the beach but wasn't thrilled with Sand. She enjoyed the feel of the waves and floating in the salt water and even enjoyed drinking the salt water. We swam every day at the pool at the hotel, Megan enjoyed fish watching so much we went several times to the Aquarium which if your ever in Maui is worth a visit. Jack and I took turns snorkeling Molokini, where I saw a white tip Shark and followed it for a few minutes. Then I looked up to find someone to show it and when I looked back it was gone. While Jack snorkeled the next Day Megan and I went on a submarine ride. That's when I remembered I get motion sick when I go down below on a boat! Actually it wasn't that bad, just a little head ache and woozy feeling. We saw a stingray and lots of fish, sea urchins and a couple of divers. Jack enjoyed a massage that evening, and we finally watched a movie with Pam and Yvonne after Megan went down - we saw "The Core" The next day we went for a morning drive, then I got a hot rocks massage, while Jack and Megan explored a local's beach. Then that afternoon after lunch I enjoyed some time on the beach reading while Jack and Megan caught Monday night Football. After a morning back at the Aquarium, we headed home, but not before having some apples confiscated by the Hawaiian agricultural inspector at the airport.

What the???

To bump Miami from 2 to 6 API (or 7 Couches Poll) is just wrong. Miami was number 2 lost ones and got moved below Florida State - Please. I understand that we would be moved down - As Jack says "we got schooled" - but to get knocked out of the top 5 just shows how much those that make the polls loath Miami and take the first opportunity to dump us. Its like each year that we've won the national championship - the very next year we start out in some other spot than 1.

Well I'm still proud to be a Miami Hurricane - its a great team and a great school. Who cares what the damn polls say.

COLD IN THE NOSE

Once again I have a looming trip and I've gotten a cold. this time I blame the flu shot - which since i'm the only one sick I think is a definite possibility. Jack's been a big help today keeping the wiggler occupied while I tried to rest.

I did see a great movie yesterday while the cold was just beginning to brew. "The Station Master" was a great laugh. I recommend it whole heartedly.

So this week is rest and packing. Megan is probably out of luck for Gymboree tomorrow - unless I'm feeling a whole lot better.
Hopeful by tuesday I'll be up for game night at the mothers club.
