3 things...

if bad things happen in 3's i'm in trouble.

First off this morning I placed a pyrex baking pan above the fridge while I went out to the garage for step stool. Jack was out there feeding the dogs and ask me to get him the open can of food since I was heading back in. I went into the kitchen, put down the stool opened the fridge and wham the dish fell on my head the crash it shattered into a million pieces on the floor. Megan was on the other side of the island. Jack came in and grabbed her, while I started cleaning up the mess.

About an hour later. Megan was strapped in the car for our trip up to San Francisco to go to the California Academy of Science - last day at the old building. ( they are moving to temp housing and then in 2008 they will move back to golden gate park into brand new building). Anyway, Jack came out and hung out with Megan while I ran in to get something I forgot. Then I jumped in the car and backed out of the car - and crash - I smashed the front of Jack's civic. I'm sure he'll get some pictures of the damage up soon. My car has a little scratch and I think its really paint transfer from his car and not actually a scratch. His car runs fine so it appears to just be body damage. I just forgot that the car was there and couldn't see it as I backed out.

I was so sure that some thing worse was going to befall me. But we made it to the city and back with out further incident. So I"m kind of holding my breath.

Big Fish

Went out tonight with another mom and we saw "Big Fish" which was surprisingly good. Tim Burtin's best that I've seen. Its got a great cast and they all do a great job, except maybe Jessica Lange who is underused wife and mother of the 2 leading characters.

Kids make xmas wonderful

Megan had a great morning. When she first spied her booty from Santa her eye's went wide open and her jaw dropped. She loved playing with all the new neat toys.

Aside from a really bad movie I gave Jack (Alien Visitor) and a mediocre CD from Cindy Lauper (At Last), I think Jack had a pretty good Christmas.

I got a great stuff too including some great Hawaiian CD's by an artist IZ. I've made Jack and Megan listen to it all day. We had a wonderful dinner of Calzone and Salad, followed by Strawberry Cheese cake.

ROTK - great movie

I agree with most of Jack's review. I think the DVD with extended scenes will probably help the choppiness of the 3rd movie like it did the first 2 movies. I got different previews than Jack and so I was a bit bummed that I didn't get to see the Chronicles of Riddick trailer - I was bummed with the Mask 2 trailer.

So after yesterday's standoff - nothing in the paper, or on the news or on any local website.

Stuck on You

Now I can say a movie I saw was not so great. Stuck on you had its moments and seeing Cher and Meryle Streep laugh at themselves is great, but overall its really just not that great of a movie.

The lines for LOTR:Return of the King were insane. And these people had already bought tickets, they were just waiting an hour+ for seating.

Standoff in Union City

So I'm leaving borders this morning after Megan and I enjoyed story-time, when I hear the helicopter over head announce "come out (a word I didn't get) or the police are coming in" - nice!

As I drove home I past the neighborhood next to Hollywood Video with police at every corner and the whole area blocked off. I called the local paper in hopes of finding out what was happening and ended up tipping them off, so when I got home I called a couple of the local tv stations too. I'll let you know what the reporters find out :)

exciting!

Thoughts of Mom

This time of year will always bring to my mind my mom, Not just because she died on this day 4 years ago, but because as a child she always made Christmas so special.

It was my favorite holiday. Now as I get prepared for the holidays, as a mom myself, I am constantly being reminded of her. When I sing Megan to sleep with carols, I remember singing carols to her with my sister Robin, as she lay dying. She could barely speak, but she managed to directed our rhythm as we held her hand.

She loved the carols. She loved going to church late on Christmas Eve, candle light and song. It all meant so much to her.

Oh Mom I miss you. I ache that Megan will never know you, that I have so much to share with you, so much advice to seek and so many stories to tell. I can't send you Megan's picture with Santa, but I can think of you often and know that you are still with me, when ever I see a zebra or an orange slug bug.

Merry Christmas Mom, I love you.

annoying movie goers

Yesterday I saw the Last Samurai - Jack reviewed it enough on his blog, I'd just say it was entertaining but not phenomenal As Oprah would have you believe. It was a tad hokie (like Far and Away and the damn putting the flag in the ground scene). I sat next to 2 gentleman who for the 30 mins before the show entertained me with gruesome conversation about what could happen to their families in the event of a fire in the house and how each one would attempt to escape. These guys really got into what would happen with little Kara couldn't break the glass in the window. They also talked about security system and doors and seemed to think a army of visigoths were waiting to break in any minute and they really needed to fortify.

Once the movie started one of the men felt he needed to explain the reasoning behind every scene to his friend. This was the same man who when they sat down asked me and everyone around us if we would shut off our cells (this I applauded). But then to turn around and be so damn annoying through out the film! Just as I would get swept up in some scene he would open his big mouth and explain why we should care. I did finally ask him to shut up - I even said he was ruining the suspension of Disbelief which he gave me a look like he didn't know what the hell I was talking about and then he just changed from normal speaking to a very loud whisper. I finally got up and moved. And enjoyed the ending without any additional commentary. Don't you just hate annoying people!

The missing and Elf

Last weekend I saw these 2 movies. Elf was funny and well done.

The Missing I didn't expect much of. Most critics have not liked it and I'm not a huge fan of westerns. But in honor of my mom who loved westerns I went and it was really pretty good and I know she would have loved it. So I recommend it to anyone who likes westerns and even if you don't its a pretty good movie.
