Georgia on my mind...

If I was from Georgia, I'd be embarrassed too!

Oscar prep

Each year I like to see all the Oscar nominated films for Best Picture before the awards show. Usually from nominations to the awards show I have about 3 pictures to watch. This year, however I've seen all the best picture nominated films...so For a change I'm going to shoot for seeing all the pictures that the actors are nominated for. That means I need to see House of Sand and Fog, In America, 21 Grams, Pieces of April, and Thirteen. It'll be a challenge since most of these are art house films. - Pieces of April and Thirteen are both out on DVD. In America and 21 Grams are in the theater so it looks like the tough one will be House of Sand and Fog.

House of illness update...

Now Jack has the bug. Megan is finally feeling better after 4 days of puking. I only had that for one day but the second stage is set in on both of us. Jack started late last night and poor Ripley was so concerned she actually got off the bed and stuck her nose under the bath room door in sympathy. Its a humdinger of a virus.

House of illness...

Megan started on Sunday with a stomach flu and I came down with symptoms last night late. Hopefully we are both on the mend.

My sick bed reading today was to finish The Da Vinci Code, a Christmas gift from the Bolducs. It was a wonderful novel and I can't recommend enough.

If I had more energy I'd put a link to the title for you but I need to lay back down soon.

Not the day we planned...

Megan and I had a great day planned for today. First we were supposed to go to the library for toddler time, a new program we registered for, and then we were supposed to meet a friend at the Palo Alto Junior Museum.

First we tried the library. We got into the side room and the librarian in-charge of the program told me Megan had to sit in my lap for the whole 30 mins, no running around and she wasn't allowed to be noisy. Megan of course wanted to run free and was vocal in opposition to me trying to hold her close. So we left and on the way out I told the reference librarian we won't be back.

Then we headed across the bay to meet our friend and the rain started. The museum is also a zoo (outside) so I called our friend and we met them at their house instead and had playtime and lunch. We stopped by Jack's work on the way home so Megan could see dad. Jack had to work late so this gave them a few minutes of of playtime. Then we headed home for a nap.

It wasn't a bad day - just not the day we planned.

nix the shrub but keep the plan

I finally like something the shrub has to say - I mean I actually listened to him and not the retelling of what he said at 5. So lets replace the shrub but I like the idea of going back to the moon and further on to Mars.

condoms in the park

Megan and I had a play date in the park with a friend and her mother. The play structures are surrounded by sand. Nola and her mom came across a used condom partially buried in the sand. It made me want to take Megan home and give her a bath right away, but I had to settle for some wet wipes. But I did scrub her good that night when I did give her a bath.

shoes etc

No one teaches you how to put shoes on someone else's feet. I bought Megan and good pair of shoes and watch the guy at the store put them on her with no trouble. The next day I couldn't get Megan's shoes on easily - I'm talking 20 mins of trying and then trying again. She would bunch up her toes and they would end up on as if she had fat stumps instead of feet. We'll Saturday we went out and played with our neighbor Darlene and she took on look at Megan's feet, laughed and said "first kid".

She had Megan sit at the curb and in just a few seconds she had them both on straight - I sat there dumb-founded with my jaw on the pavement, but watching her was enough - I can put them on now in just a couple of seconds.

Cherrios for Megan and Sadie

Megan is sharing her cherrios with Sadie, currently its one handful for Sadie, a couple for herself. Over and over. The best ones are the times she lets Sadie sniff her hand and the cherrios in them and then she eats them herself :)

Do you suppose cherrios will help Sadie's cholesterol?

New Ranking

Not only is Miami number 4, after SCU, LSU and Oklahoma but Florida State is 14. Its as it should be !

Kellen Winslow did decide to leave Miami early for the NFL which will hurt alittle next year, but I'm sure we've got a great replacement, eager to prove he is a force too.

Happy New Year!

Well this year is off to better start. I didn't start out today in the hospital recovering from surgery like I did last year and today I didn't have any more mishaps like yesterday. I'm thinking the 3rd thing from yesterday was I destroyed the rug from our bathroom. I threw it in the wash ( and it disintegrated) before I smashed the baking dish or ran into Jack's car so it was actually the first of 3 bad things. I just didn't find it till later cause I was alittle distracted.

Today Jack and Megan played at Gymboree while I ran down to Target and bought a new bath matt. Then we had lunch at this great new sushi place in Fremont. I then headed to a movie (girl with a pearl earring - which I recommend to any one who likes character films, or period pieces- and of course it had my man Mr Firth so it was great!) while Megan napped and Jack did some work. It was a great day and then it was topped off by excellent football. It was a bit of a nail-bitter but the Canes prevailed.

Now lets see if Miami is finally placed above FSU in the damn polls!
