Art Class

Megan and I started an art class yesterday. She had a blast going from painting to playdough and then on to gluing and coloring. It is taught by teacher Linda the same nice lady that taught us art camp earlier in the summer. The class is alittle more diverse and the parents didn't seem to want to talk to each other, but maybe after a few classes people will follow my lead and chat. Till then I have one other mom to talk to who is also in our gym class on mondays.

Suprise support for Kerry

Bush's hometown paper has endorsed Kerry.

"Four items trouble us the most about the Bush administration: his initiatives to disable the Social Security system, the deteriorating state of the American economy, a dangerous shift away from the basic freedoms established by our founding fathers, and his continuous mistakes regarding Iraq,"

The link for the actual paper Here however I couldn't get it to load - probably to many people trying to check it out.

GO KERRY!

A great weekend

We just finished a great weekend. I enjoyed saturday to myself and went to a movie, and saw Wimbledon , which I really enjoyed. I made a quiche for dinner, and then after Megan went down, Jack and I watched Outfoxed (I'm sure he'll blog about it, but I was overwhelmed by it but then I never watch Fox news so I hadn't really exposed myself to their lies and prejudices).

Today while keeping an eye on the weather channel to make sure Jeanne was moving quickly and our family is safe, Jack, Megan, Sadie and I entertained the Floods.

the Lying continues!

I just couldn't believe this one... The Republican party lies and admits they lie to mobilize there own party - they think that little of their own people that they feel they have to lie to them to mobilize them!

From The New York Times:
The Republican Party acknowledged yesterday sending mass mailings to residents of two states warning that "liberals" seek to ban the Bible. It said the mailings were part of its effort to mobilize religious voters for President Bush.

The mailings include images of the Bible labeled "banned" and of a gay marriage proposal labeled "allowed." A mailing to Arkansas residents warns: "This will be Arkansas if you don't vote." A similar mailing was sent to West Virginians.

A liberal religious group, the Interfaith Alliance, circulated a copy of the Arkansas mailing to reporters yesterday to publicize it. "What they are doing is despicable,'' said Don Parker, a spokesman for the alliance. "They are playing on people's fears and emotions."

In an e-mail message, Christine Iverson, a spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee, confirmed that the party had sent the mailings.

Tivo'd Kerry

I Tivo'd Kerry's appearance on David Letterman 2 nights ago and really enjoyed watching it when I saw it last night before bed. I look forward to hearing more from him and watching him in the debates and we learn more about this great man. For those of you who missed it he did the "Top 10" for David and it was a hoot - see for your self.

Kerry’s “Top 10 Bush Tax Proposals” are:

10. No estate tax for families with at least two U.S. presidents.

9. W-2 Form is now Dubya-2 Form.

8. Under the simplified tax code, your refund check goes directly to Halliburton.

7. The reduced earned income tax credit is so unfair, it just makes me want to tear out my lustrous, finely groomed hair.

6. Attorney General (John) Ashcroft gets to write off the entire U.S. Constitution.

5. Texas Rangers can take a business loss for trading Sammy Sosa.

4. Eliminate all income taxes; just ask Teresa (Heinz Kerry) to cover the whole damn thing.

3. Cheney can claim Bush as a dependent.

2. Hundred-dollar penalty if you pronounce it “nuclear” instead of “nucular.”

1. George W. Bush gets a deduction for mortgaging our entire future.

Fuzzy Pink Slippers

Yesterday at Target I got her a pair of pink fuzzy slippers, which are now her favorite shoes! She wanted to nap in the yesterday so of course last night she wanted to sleep in them again. After about an hour in bed I heard her yell "Ahme Ahme" which is her name for me so I went running back - as she has never asked for me in the night before and there she was struggling to put the slipper back on. She looked at me with tear filled eyes and said "Ahme Shoes" I couldn't help but giggle, she woke up when the slipper had fallen off. I helped her put it back on and told her "Sleepy time Gee" When I went in later to check on her one of the slippers had come off again and she was cuddling with it in her sleep.

First thing this morning she wanted the slippers back on - first before pants or diaper or shirt - just shoes please. I did manage to get her to agree to take them off when we headed to the grocery store.
I'm sure Jack will be putting up some pictures of Megan in her new Fuzzy Pink Slippers.

Then again, Maybe not

after 4 days of no nursing Megan decided she wanted to nurse today. I let her and she happily sucked for about 5 mins. I can't believe I had milk for her but sure enough when she pulled off she had the tell tale white drool. I reflected while she nursed on how wonderful it felt and how it maybe the last time. She was bored. We'd been waiting in a little room for the doctor for over 40 mins and she had done everything she could think of 10 times. We have all had our flu shots now, even Jack.

Weaned

The last two mornings when offered the breast Megan has said "no". So its official she's weaned all by herself. I'm a bit sore, the longing makes me fuller but I suppose its time. She knew when she was ready to stop nursing. I'm looking forward to being able to sleep in occasionally now. She won't be needing me first thing in the morning any more.

cucumber queen

for the past few days all Megan will eat is Cucumbers. And not just any cucumbers but our home grown english cukes cut in cubes. Its cute to watch her crunch them... but what vitamins is she lacking if this diet continues much longer. She did have Spinach Tortilini with Tomato sauce yesterday and banana to go with her cucumber lunch. So overall she's eating more than Cucumber... but if she has a choice that is all that goes in her mouth.

Great day waiting...

Our spa broke down a few weeks back. The guy who sold it to us went on vacation, so when he finally came back earlier this week I got ahold of him. He told me his repair guy would be out here either thursday or friday - a 2 DAY WINDOW!. So I called the mom and friend Megan and i were going to play with and invited them over to wait with us. She brought over eggplant and fixings for Eggplant parmesan, Stefan and Megan and another friend Stephanie, played in the morning - then while lunch was cooking Stefan and Megan moved out back and played in the sprinkler. (Stephanie went home with her mom to nap). We had a delicious lunch and then the kids watched an animal video Stefan brought, while I cleaned up. Megan went down for nap and our friends went home. The spa man called to say his repair man would be out first thing in the morning - go figure. Still it was a lovely day.

Sleepy head

its 10am and Megan is still fast asleep. She has some friends coming over to play this morning, so I haven't even been trying to be quiet, and yet she's sleeps. Too cute ... must be a growth spurt.

No Bananas

I was approached today in a parking lot of my favorite grocery store Trade Joes by a woman looking for a hand out. She said that she needed some money for her and her to girls to stay at a motel and get some food, til thursday night when they would get a bed at the local shelter. Could I help her out with anything. I said no sorry, I wouldn't give her any money but I had just shopped and would be happy to give her some bananas for her girls. She said well would you buy me and my girls lunch from TOGO's (a sandwich shop right next to the grocery) - No I said but you can have some bananas. She said nah - just your prayers than. To me she proved that she really wasn't desperate. If she had been bananas would have been great. She looked really clean and was wearing a little too much make up. Her two daughters were no where to be seen.

It just cracked me up, like my friend Barbara's story of how after dinner one night she was ask for some money by a bum in LA. She said no but you can have my left over salad. To which he replied "what kind of dressing is it?"

CANES CANES CANES

What a wickedly tense game. 16-10 and I thought for sure we were going to get our *&%^% served back to us on a silver planter. Gore rocked in OT glad he's back and in good health. Berlin was great and so was our DEFENSE! Wish they hadn't cut it quite so close, I don't think Jack could have taken any more.

EMO!

I think I can recite the entire movie Finding Nemo by heart. Its the only movie Megan will watch and with this cold she's managed a few more viewings. I tried Bug's life yesterday for my own sanity, but as I sat watching it while the Grasshoppers came for their food, Megan had wondered off and was destroying her room. Today I tried Monster's Inc and we didn't even get to the factory before she lost interest and moved on. So were back with "Emo" It is a cute movie and there are worse things I could be wasting my memory cells on.

On the cold front she is still plugged up. But I think she's feeling better. We might even be able to go swimming by Sunday.

September 09, 2004

ouch, ugh and :(

Megan had a tumble yesterday and lost most of one fingernail. I can handle most anything... but I can' no longer look at her poor hand. Hopefully it won't gross me out of long.

I too woke up in the middle of the night - around 2. I got up and watched Amish in the City (which I'd tivo'd) yes I like bad TV. I surfed the web and then an hour later went back to bed.

So what to do with a girl with a cold who wants to go out and play... but really shouldn't. Our back yard is OK, but hot! I think I'm going to introduce her to a new movie this afternoon.

surreal

Having lived in Miami through hurricane Andrew, and knowing we have so many family and friends in the sites of Frances, it is so surreal to watch the coverage and be fearful for our love ones while we have such wonderful weather.

We're thinking of everyone in Florida on both sides of our family and hope every one is safe.

A wonderful day...

Megan and I headed out this morning to Half Moon Bay. I love HMB... its a charming community and had it had more than a mountainous one lane road in and out I would have insisted we live there, but it was not to be... The ride to HMB today included 45 mins of sitting still, so in the end we made the right choice.

so today Megan and I met up with a friend and her son and we went to the beach. Seals came right up close to the beach and tried to get dogs to come play... one did and it was a hoot to watch them swimming around together. Megan and I got wet and sandy... though I miss the warm water's of the florida Atlantic coast (I'm glad I'm not there this weekend). After we enjoyed the sun and the surf, we loaded up in the car and headed down town to a thai restaurant that had yummy satay. A pleasant ride home and now Megan is not napping in her bed. I'm showered and awaiting my date! (Jack and I have a sitter tonight and we are doing dinner and movie)

I took the good camera and got lots of pics... including an attempt at a panorama...so watch this space for more pics :)

bad coffee

I made really bad coffee this morning. It was yummy last night when Jack made it, so the beans are fine. It was simply me. Was I too tired to .... boil water and pour over ground beans, wait, plunge... how did I make a bad pot of coffee? it shall be a mystery for me today as I go about my business.

Megan and I have a few errands today, to get Jack some new clothes, and to get a
"metal Rod" (I'm thinking of a Simpson's episode now) so that we can hopefully find the sewage clean out in the front yard. Blueprints are only kept for 5 years in this city, so our only hope is finding it ourselves... somewhere in the yard. Hopefully not under the front walk.
