Confessions of a chicken eating vegetarian

I eat chicken.. I admit it. Jack and I gave up all meat cold turkey in 1993, and were good faithful, vegetarians throughout our trip to Oz, and our move back here. When I got pregnant with Megan in 2002 I craved Chicken so badly I actually gave in and ate a few chicken sandwiches. I gave it up again when Megan was born and was happily reformed until I had my gallbladder out. Basically I was running to the toilet, frantic and multiple times a day - not easy with a baby, who is demanding attention. I remembered back to pregnancy and how the chicken had bound me up and gave it a try - sweet relief. So now I'm a chicken eating vegetarian. Vegetarian on most days with a few days off for some chicken relief. I'm enjoying it all alittle too much too.

My most successful party ever!

I hosted a baby shower today ... for a very good Friend, Diane. She's expecting her second, a girl... in a couple of weeks. Her first, Scottie is one of Megan's favorite "guys" and we love hanging out together. So I hosted her a baby shower tonight and It all worked out so well... We started at 8 pm, Megan actually was asleep by 7:30. I made fondue, and all the other ladies brought a dessert to share (and one mom brought cucumber sandwiches which made a great change). We had Tiramusu, Cheese cake, Banana Cream pie, Strawberry short cake, and fruit puffs. It was all so delicious. I had 5 games prepared thanks to this site, and I actually picked games no body had played before and everyone. Different mom's won, and everyone liked the gifts I had. Everyone had such a good time and I did as well.

I've hosted lots of parties in the past. Some notable not so successful ones... at least on my part... were Jack's book Launching Picnic (Another group took over our reserved space at the park, which I let get to me and then the awning I bought wouldn't go together easily. Jack's 35th birthday were I used the worlds smallest grill to cook food for 40 people - way to stressful. Jack's 30th party was alright but it was alot of people (30 I think) crammed in to a very small space (the company condo we were living in while we were house hunting.)

I've hosted lots of small intimate gatherings, dinner with friends, etc, that I felt were very successful.. but this was my most successful party.

They are working together...

Megan had eaten her lunch at the grocery store (Edemame) and then again when we got home (carrots, String cheese and a fortune cookie), while I put the groceries away. So I set her up drawing while I made myself a sandwich. When I got to the table, Megan had colored her picture, her lip, her hair, her legs her feet and her cheek. She wanted to go and wash off the marker from her hands, so I took a bite put my sandwich down and helped her to the sink. As we cleaned I realized she had produced an odor so I picked her up, carried her back, changed her diaper, wiped the marker off exposed body parts and got her in clothes she can't remove for her impending nap. When I'd gotten back to the table.. my sandwich was gone - completely gone - dogs no where to be found! (ok they were in the bay window acting guilty and licking their lips.)

I did it to myself...

Last week Jack and I happened upon Project Runway. We both watched in disbelief. Could this really be a show or was it a joke...

After about 20 minutes i was hooked, and found Bravo's schedule a "Thon", Set up the TIVO and then stayed up till 3 am watching all the episodes in a crazy haze. I was so exhausted today a result of my sleepless night I napped when Megan napped, which means I probably won't be able to sleeping tonight.

Megan's First Movie

I took Gee today to see Pooh's Heffalump movie. I timed it so we got the the theater at 1:10pm 5 minutes to show time. We bought our ticket, I had to pay for me, Megan was free. I joked with the girl that that was backward - the movie was for her after all, but the joke was lost.

We went to the snack bar but Megan wanted no "op um" so we headed into the theater. She ran through the halls and gleefully went in to the theater it self, climbed up to the very last row and sat down, she immediately got up and ran down the stairs and out the theater. We then sat at a bench in the hall waiting for the movie to start. We hung out for a few minutes watching people rushing about, before heading back into the theater, and Megan picked a row in the front of the theater. We sat there for a couple of minutes quietly watching the slides, when Megan jumped up and headed to the next row up, when I joined her she moved up another row, she called me over and asked me to sit with her so I moved again.

She then went back to the original row on the ground so I moved back. When she next escaped she headed back out to the hallway. I followed and when she saw the mini snack bar she said "op Um" we went ahead and got her a kiddie pak (with a soda for me) and we headed back in. Sat in our original seat and I dug out a smuggled in Juice box for her. We started in on the popcorn, and waited... for another few minutes. By the time the move started it was 1:45 a full 30 minutes late.

She was mesmerized by the previews, She loved the very tiring fandago ad and clapped with delight for the THX promo that is also on one of our dvd's (the one with the robot and the cow moo'er).

Then the movie started. She climbed up into my lap and we snuggled in and she watched, mouth open, completely enthralled. She laughed and loved seeing "POOH!"

She watched the whole movie, moving back into her own chair about half way through. At the end when the credits started to roll she announced "All Done".

It was such a wonderful experience to watch her watch the movie. The first of many, i'm sure.

Oso really is a wonder

as he cuddles with me tonight as I type this, asleep in my lap, I'm amazed we found this incredible dog. Megan today put the christmas jingle bell collar on him, she also tortures him by putting his toys in her bed or up on furniture that he won't jump up to get. He is such a good patient dog. He rolls over and gets belly scratches from her, and I think really loves her.

Parking struggles

Film club yesterday showed a hysterical film which I couldn't watch. The movie was The Delicate Art of Parking and while the dialogue was very funny and kept me laughing, but the camera was so shaky I was nauseous throughout the flick, and watched it from behind my hands.

The film tells the story of the parking enforcement officers, a job we all love to hate. If your not effected by motion, and they ever release it in the US, I recommend it. If however, your like me you'll either need dramamine to see it on the big screen or you should wait for the DVD and watch it on the smallest tv in your house.

My first embarrassing Toddler moment

I've been letting Megan in the bathroom while I go "potty" in hopes of encouraging her on that endeavor. Yesterday after I pooped - I let her flush and she said "Yucky Mommy poopy Potty." Time passed, we went to Costco, shopped and for me the whole incident was forgotten. Megan started chatting with the old man in line behind us and she proudly informed him - "Mommy Poopy Potty" ... "YUCKY!" I kid you not - I blushed and the old man chuckled and said that was good for mommy.

On a side note - today at playgroup one of the slightly older boys who is currently going through potty training, needed to go potty and the mom let Megan watch. As soon as everyone left she told me "meme Potty" and proceeded to pee in the toilet for the first time ever! - Yeah Megan!

We are fortunate

As Megan and Oso play a game of chase me I have your toy, I'm reminded of just how lucky we are. How incredibly fortunate we've been ...

and how cruel toddlers can be to unsuspecting dogs (she just put his ball in her crib).

I'm the lucky one, Megan is a wonderful daughter (and very clever toddler), and Jack is the best of husbands.

Gee ga dee

Megan lately has been going to bed happily - for nap or night time, but then plays until I come in again and remind her to sleep. Then she almost immediately goes to sleep. She really is so cute.

We went and got her hair cut today. She was such an angel for the lady, sat in the little yellow car and watched "Land Before Time" while the hairdresser quickly cut off all the split ends and gave her bangs again. We spend the next 20 minutes playing with all the toys -- the play house and slide. Megan actually had a great time.

Oh NO! ... or OSO is the devil

During dinner tonight OSO chewed the nose of Megan's favorite bear!

Its a purple Mickey bear from our trip Disneyland when she was 11 months old. She takes this bear everywhere. Now he needs a nose transplant. Any suggestions? Anyone going to Disney - cause I can't find any online.

Moscow Mule

My new favorite beverage is a Moscow Mule. Basically I use a whole ginger beer with a 2 oz shot of Vodka. I also haven't added the lime juice yet - too lazy, and I haven't ordered it out yet, I don't often have the opportunity. - I stumbled across it while trying to figure out what to make with ingredients on hand. A few years back I gave Jack a set of bar cards, and every once and a while I search through them to find a tasty new libation.

Goodbye you'll be missed

One of my favorite actors just died. Ossie Davis was a wonderful character actor, who always gave such classy performances. I think I'll netflix Bubba Ho-Tep and enjoy one of his funniest performances in honor of him.

missing fingers

I've been dreaming lately that I've lost fingers. I wasn't even troubled by the dreams which is troubling. It would just be a totally normal dream about me flying or cooking, and i'd notice I'd lost another finger. Last nights dream I only had 7. I'm not sure what the significance of missing digits is... or at least I didn't until I started grinding coffee beans this morning and the grinder wouldn't turn off. Its been stuck on alot lately and I've been unplugging it to get the coffee out. I think we need a new grinder - perhaps my next trip to COSTCO.

Good Reads

Just finished David Sedaris Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim which was absolutely hilarious as funny as his previous books. There were times when I actually laughed out loud and then forced Jack to listen to me read sections out. One such section was his description of his father using the his dogs antibiotics. I can't possibly due it justice, suffices to say week bladders - watch out!

Poor Sadie

Sadie had her first trip to the groomer today since going completely blind. She apparently cried a bit, but now she's clean and trimmed and sleeping in the window from the stress of it.
