Tall Tales

I was just treated to a lovely story about how Megan and her dad made our car. She said the didn't make the parts but they built it together and then she painted it. She really went in to details too about doing the roof and the steering wheel and all the other parts.

I think she really misses her daddy!

Pancakes

Megan loves McDonald's Pancakes. Today she even asked for them specifically. Since we aren't rushing anywhere there is no need to resort to McD's for breakfast so I said no, but then I did a google search to find the McDonald Pancake Recipe its no wonder she likes them over all others - just look at all that sugar! - why am I not surprised.

currently on heavy rotation

currently on heavy rotation on my ipod is the new album from the The Dixie Chicks Bless them! I love this album - it has my sentiments almost spot on - I to am mad as hell with the Bush administration and all the illegal crap, the huge deficit the forgotten war in Afghanistan where we should have kicked butt, and of course the war in Iraq - course no one has sent me death threats. I have all the more respect for this album because they aren't backing down. I particularly like "Not ready to make nice" and honestly why should they.

Anyway - if you haven't heard it I recommend it - give it a listen. Really great album from some great artists.

Da Vinci Code

Jack and I saw the Da Vinci Code tonight and I did like it. But it didn't blow me away the way the book did. At times I was even bored - and that is because I liked the book so much. I devoured that book, even spending weeks deciphering the codes on the book jacket, and looking at paintings by Da Vinci. I felt as if as I read it that I was on a grail quest myself. The movie does stay true to the book and follows the story well enough. The actors do a believable job in all the parts, though the book Silas was a tad more crazy to me than the one on screen. But overall if you've read the book you might just be disappointed, as there is no real mystery left for the movie to expose.

TMI - and another thing

I can't wear a bra - it would just be too painful and yet i'm large enough that no bra may actually be painful by itself. We shall see - i'm just going to double shirt it so that I don't feel too self conscience.

Off to buy some solarCaine!

Fun in the Sun, and oh the pain

Occasionally I end up with a sunburn. Before Megan when we went to Hawaii it was on my legs above the knees. In Australia after seeing Agassi play Courier it was in the scalp.

I'd been pretty sun smart since Megan was born, helped in part by the fact that I lather her in sunscreen so I have it on hand. Yesterday we had a lovely day at the Santa Cruz Beach with Megan's friends Audrey and Oliver, and and their siblings, and mom's Malai and Gretchen. The weather was perfect. I was the only one who went into the water - which on this coast is freezing. The kids absolutely loved playing in the sand. We all enjoyed a picnic lunch and Malai was brave enough to take all the kids to the boardwalk for Ice Cream.

I managed to cover most of my body with sunscreen, but missed my upper back and my new suit leaves it exposed. I am now suffering for it. Megan is fine, as I liberally applied and reapplied sunscreen to her.

The other part of me that got too much sun was my arm - driver side - and while I got sunscreen on it at the beach, it got a little dark on the trip down- so much so that my left arm is several shades darker than my right.

A Perfect Mothers Day

Happy Mother's day to all you mom's out there.

Today for me was perfect. Megan slept in a bit so I actually got to watch all of CBS Sunday morning and Jack brought me coffee. Then we headed out to breakfast and after ventured over to Gamble Garden in Palo Alto. We took pictures with Megan and the flowers and had a really beautiful time. We headed home and Megan played out in the kiddy pool and then she headed in for a nap, and I headed to our pool for some laps. It was really relaxing and wonderful. Once home and Megan was up, She and Jack made cookies while I cooked dinner - we had a lovely bbq in our back and then we explored the veggie garden and played in the back yard. It was so relaxing and just absolutely wonderful. We really have it good. It was a wonderful mothers day.

Cruel Joke

SNL had Gore on - a parallel universe where he not only won in 2000 but actually took office. It was really funny, but so sad to us liberals who are stuck with the current bozo.

Evil or Genius?

Megan has a digital clock in her room. I bought it when she was little so when I went in to her in the middle of the night to breast feed I could tell what time it was. Recently however its become handy for telling her when she can and can not get out of bed. The rule is when the clock says 7 something its ok or 8 or 9 but not 6 and not 5 and definitely not 4. Its worked really really well. Surprisingly well. Megan proudly announces the hour when she gets out of her room in the morning - "Mommy its 7!"

well today I installed a new light fixture and had to turn off the power to which included Megan's room. So tonight when I was setting the time I decided to set it 30 minutes late so that instead of coming in first thing tomorrow right at 7, I'm guaranteed an extra 30 minutes in the morning. I'm so excited!

3 years ago today

BUSH declared Mission Accomplished... remember that fiasco. 2335 US soldiers have died since he stood on the ship.

And never forget the lies that brought us to war in the first place. There were NO WMD's.

Its easy to forget about what's happening over there, when the sun is shinning and we're all having such a good time.

A lovely and productive weekend

Our weekend really started friday when Pam and I took Megan and Josephine shopping for shoes. The girls had never been shopping together and we a riot, hiding in clothing racks, and trying on every shoe Nordstrom had in their young bimbo collection. After a quick lunch at CPK we headed over to the Palo Alto Children's Museum and let the girls burn off some energy. Megan and I have been there lots of times but never in the afternoon. well all the animals were active for a change, and we got to see a Raccoon playing with a KONG, 2 bobcats wondering around their enclosure and all the Geese and rabbits and turtles moving around in their big shared pen. I think I'm going to aim for after lunch from now on. We came back to our house, and the girls played while Pam ran home and got her dogs. Then after Jack and Yvonne came from work we all enjoyed a quick thai take out and a luscious Lava Cake - Jack made.

Saturday Jack worked hard out prepping the garden while Megan and I picked up our friend Derek and his mom, and headed up to LakeShore Learning for the art project - Then we headed over for the Rubber Duck race at a local park. None of our ducks won, but it was a lot of fun. We came home and Jack, Megan and I all climbed in the spa to "swim." Then we went over to Megan's friend Audrey's house for a lovely dinner party.

Sunday dawned late since Megan is now back to sleeping in. So we headed over to our favorite breakfast place but had to wait 10 minutes for a table. After we headed over to our favorite nursery and picked out lots of veggies and flowers and we came home and planted. It was a nice hot day so I dug out Megan's kiddie pool and gave her a few inches of water, to cool off in while we finished our shores. I decided to start pressure cleaning the patio to get off the winter grime and slime. All in all our back yard is looking really nice. Jack put in some red bark in all the flower beds and I planted some flowers in pots. It'll be really nice to start spending the summer days out there.

sunday afternoon we hang with friends up at Pam and Yvonne's house, while all the kids played the parents got to catch up. After getting home, Megan and I released hundreds of lady bugs into our newly planted veggie garden.
