I've been giving quilting a try since I visited Mumsy and Grandpa in Florida. I made 4 placemats first. Well Mumsy worked through one in Ocala and the other 3 I did when we got back. While buying supplies I found a quilt kit for a kids blanket. It uses lots of soft fabrics, including satin, flannel, cotton and plush. Well damn if Plush isn't the worst possible fabric to quilt with.
While the cotton, flannel and satin all stay put, the plush stretches. It was alright while I was sewing all the squares together, but now that i'm sewing the plush back to the top Damn if I can't get it all to line up - the plush squares are on the four corners and when I start at one corner and sew straight down - no matter how many pins I put in the plush at the other end ends up longer than the bottom piece. I think the bottom plush stays put cause I already attached the batting.
Anyway - After ripping out stitches a few times, you sort of just decide the hell with it - I'm going just finish it and forget about ever using plush again. I need to move on - I have a costume to make!
On the plus - I love my cutting table - however I really don't have room for it - We need another 2 rooms I think to really be comfortable.
Why this hasn't been copied over and over and over is beyond me. Its old news but today I was sitting in the parking lot adjacent and noticed that while my car baked in the sweltering sun, those at the court house all sat under shade - and that's when I realized that the shade was actually solar panels. I've known about it for sometime but to see it - wow - can't believe every mall, grocery store, etc hasn't taken advantage of all that parking to make some power - its like free money- the lot is going to bake in the sun anyway.
I've been sick all weekend. I have one of the worst colds i've ever had. I've barely managed to be up and about. I did manage some laundry today and to run the vacuum, but I missed Pam and Yvonne's third wedding (Please people vote No on 8!), and Derek's Birthday party today.
That is what I get for hanging around with kids during the week.
Honestly I have never been a big fan of Oprah. Ever since I worked at B&N when she started her book club and people would rush in the minutes she announced the title to get the book. We'd be sold out by the time her show was over and for some reason this annoyed me. But now that the Florida GOP has called for a ban of her - I found myself subscribing to her magazine and setting a season pass on the DVR. GO Oprah! I support her right to interview whom ever she wants, and to throw her support behind whom ever she wants. These people are just ridiculous.
My thoughts are with my family in Houston this Friday. Casa De Newf - Stay safe - we'll be thinking of you.
Well for me...
I had a Queen and 9 of spades in my hand. The flop came up King 10 of spades and the Jack of spades came on fourth street. Jack had the ace of spades and not only bet into me with his flush but called my all in (at over 10 units)
He proudly showed he at the nut flush but then I flipped over my Queen and Nine of spades and said no I have the nut flush! - The Straight Flush! - it was an awesome moment. To have an impossible hand and to have someone pay you for it.
That Grandpa McSame is just another 4 more years - here's Tom Ridge asking you to vote for
This guy was persistant! He is in Ocala and was on the street corners near my dad almost daily - that is until I wanted to get a better picture of him and started making sure I had the better camera.
No matter this one turned out ok - His sign just cracked me up for its english

My dad says he was for Clinton which makes his new sign really funny - seeing as Clinton and Obama are from the same party.
I actually owe several blogs, like the rest of our trip to Orlando or our trip in Florida. I also have been meaning to blog about Megan's first week of first grade or that I have decided to run for secretary of our schools PTC (same as PTA but not official or affiliated with PTAs). Basically we've just been too busy.
I've really gotten into sewing full force. I'm currently finishing up some quilted placemats that Mumsy started me on while in Fl. Next up is a quilt Megan wants, though I may have to sideline that to make her costume since Halloween is 2 months away. I also found some really pretty purple fabric with butterflies in it - that I want to make a bag or something out of for myself. - I bought 2 yards so maybe something else since a bag really doesn't need that much fabric.
