We had company this weekend. Friday night Jack's Aunt and cousin arrived and and Jack rushed them over to meet up with Megan and I at her color guard performance. They arrived in time and Megan did beautifully. We then got to enjoy the middle school and high school color guards. The local high schools group is world number one ranked and really really good. The Percussion groups also performed and wow - what amazing talent we have here in Union City.
We came home to a late dinner and Great conversation.
Saturday morning we started the day taking Oso to the beach. It was a wonderful time. Oso swam out and got stick after stick, and Megan swam out for stick after stick too. She actually got up to seven sticks at once.
We came home for lunch and then headed out to a wild flower festival. It was a really wonderful event - very well organized. Megan was able to do 8 different art projects out of 12 including making some paper, sketching, and leaf prints on a t-shirt.
We had a wonderful dinner at NOLA'S and a walk around Palo Alto. We ended the day around the fire pit in the back yard with a little star gazing.
Sunday we went to see "How To Train Your Dragon" which was really a good movie. We hung out around the house the afternoon, Jack and Megan did some gardening, and we all enjoyed dinner with friends before Aunt Marsha and Jon left - one by plane the other by car.
Everything just fell in place and it was really a great weekend.
tonight while reading in bed and then later while reading mail on my laptop, I got annoyed with Little Guy who kept getting up and going out side - well annoyed at first and then concerned cause he wasn't going out to bark, I actually had no idea what he was doing.
Our usual night sees little guy and mimi in bed under the covers with the big guy ontop -no one moves until about midnight when Oso has enough of the pack and heads out to find peace in the living room. The others just stretch out and that is life.
Little guy making trips outside meant something was wrong - I wondered if he was maybe sick, or hungry. and then I heard him climb into a bathtub - not an easy feet for him, and I realized he was thirsty.
I've been noticing that nither boy will drink from the new water bowl - we'll I hadn't seen them drink from it -I got this one but actually larger in hopes of not needing to fill the small bowl so often.
Thinking it wasn't fresh enough for his highness - I got up and changed out the bowl - even washing it with hot water. He still wouldn't go near it. So I sat next to it and grabbed his empty food bill and dipped it in and filled it - he came over and proceeded to drink that bowl dry. I dipped his food bowl again and again he drank it all. when the big jug bowl made noise as water levels leveled out - he was visibly shaken. I see now I underestimated the old adage - you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Mimi however loves the new waterbowl and often can be found putting spoils of her looting in the bowl for safe keeping.
I guess tomorrow I will go find the old water bowl in the garage and fill it up instead.
The petition was a partial success - the middle school they were going to reopen won't be until the budget problems are figured out - which means probably not for a few years yet. Class Size Reduction is still on the chopping block along with busing.
The petition was read at the school board meeting. At least 2 of the board members weren't keen on it I understand - but they really shouldn't complain about people voicing their opinion - especially when the community is against theirs.
Such is life...
I plan on continuing the petition for the time being - CSR is still worth saving.
Teachers in my district got pink slips today. They are planning on increasing class sizes to save money. I am so angry -
so I started an online Petition - so far with just an email out on my parent group and one to the teacher rep and the union we gotten 120 signatures - and that is just from 11 am this morning. Hopefully we'll have a big printout of it on Tuesday to deliver to the school board.
